Richard V. Morhaime, Psy.D.Clinical Psychologist

Welcome!

Covid-19 notice: Out of safety concerns during the ongoing pandemic, I have switched over to a hybrid model of care, in which I am seeing clients both in-person and remotely using a secure, HIPAA-compliant, online video platform. Treatment modality is based on logistical factors such as scheduling availability and health status.

Thank you for visiting my website. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and certified cognitive therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience. Originally from the San Fernando Valley, I graduated from UCLA and earned my masters and doctorate at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology.

After becoming licensed in California, I lived for many years in Brazil, returning to the U.S. with my family in 2015. While living abroad, I maintained a private practice that catered primarily to the English-speaking expatriate community of São Paulo. Although many of my clients were American, a great number were from other parts of the world, including Canada, India, Australia and various countries in Europe and Latin America.

While making my home in São Paulo, I was privileged to treat clients ranging from high level executives of multinational companies to U.S. State Department employees and their families for a wide range of clinical issues. The opportunity to live abroad for so many years gave me unique firsthand insight into the cultural adaptation process and its many challenges.

My personal and professional experiences in Brazil have allowed me a deep understanding of the many stresses inherent in any major move or life transition, whether they are due to divorce or the loss of a loved one or to a change in household composition, neighborhood, school, or career.

I combine a warm interpersonal style with evidence-based strategies to help my clients overcome significant difficulties such as depression, anxiety, anger, and social problems. I invite you to glance through my website to get more of a sense of who I am and what I do. If you have any questions about whether or not I can help, I’ll be happy to speak with you about it at your convenience by phone or email.
